Executive Summary Children continue to suffered widespread abuse before, during and after post election conflicts, which rocked various slums of Kisumu city. Although they have adequately contributed to the renewal hopes at various levels of peace building initiative in their schools and communities, their voices are still not systematically sought out by adult decision-makers, and their capacities to find innovative solutions are still largely disregarded by various stakeholders and humanitarian groups. Despite these impediments, however, many children and young people have found ways to work together and with adults to advocate for their rights promote their strengths and make progress against post election violence, which was witnessed in Kenya before and after the announcement of presidential result in Kenya through mediation, advocacy and peace building at grass root level. Kisumu Children Peace Building Initiative provides a unique avenue, which provide and opportunity for children to be at the centre stage in mediation and peace building at grass root level. More importantly the strategy offers children-driven solutions for addressing the problems, which arouse as a result of last year post elections violence. In all communities and schools we conducted our survey, it was reviled that adults did not take young peoples opinions into account consistently in decision-making, or engage them in program action regularly, leaving them with limited opportunities to develop their skills and improve their lives. Children and young people viewed all of these factors as major threats to mediation, reconstruction, peace and security at grass root level. Some of the problems children facing as a result of Post election Violence: Physical insecurity, Psychosocial difficulties and a range of socio-economic development problem in particular, in adequate Psychological support counseling on trauma Girls and boys also faced distinct problems based on their gender, and girls on average faced greater challenges than boys in securing support for their rights. Among experiences common to each sexes were gender-based violence and discrimination, although boys were also subjected to sexual and other forms of violence due to gender roles; teen sex, parenthood and exposure to sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV; lack of parental care; and social disconnection or marginalization. The activities which will be under take includes: Children Plenary Discussion Session on Mediation and Peace Building at grass root level Prayer sessions Counselling for traumatised children Presentation of Songs, skit, poems addressing themes such as reconciliation, mediation, forgiveness, reconstruction at grass root level Objectives To improve children protection and well-being Identify capabilities and potentials of children affected by post election conflict, and make a strong case for promoting the participation of children in decision making as an essential means of ensuring mediation, forgiveness and protection at grass root level. Create opportunities to build strong, constructive intertribal relationships for mutual growth and development between children, young people and adults.
