Guest guest
Hello Dear Chifu and All, My big apologies for not " seeing " this earlier...I am getting abt 500 mails a day, and my human machine has been in crash mode (w/a cold), so I am definitely behind the curve. You will hopefully be back from Canada now, or tomorrow, so it would be wonderful to pick up this discussion if possible. Orgs needing help include AIDS treatments members like Reachout, St Rita's, Lake Fellowship Centre, Deaf Impact Ministry (all in Kisumu); SIDAREC (Nairobi). Others include KCYP (Kibera, at www.kcyp.net), Voluntary Youth Philanthropist (they run the Peace Camel Caravan each year, which you can see at www.peace-caravan.org, and are planning outreach activities to youth in Eldoret), REPACTED (www.repacted.org) in Nakuru, all doing peace-related work. I've just heard from Ken Chelimo, national coordinator of KenTel (Kenya Network of Telecentres), that he has lost both his home and his livelihood to vandalism (I will post his appeal here tomorrow). I wonder how Twana Twitu is faring? Hope we can enlist your friends and contacts, and get some help to these folks. Perhaps first to those who need food and medicines, and then to those doing peace-related activities. The latter may become even more imperative if the political situation does not change. There is one network of which I'm a member (Minciu Sodas, at www.ms.lt), which has been organizing an emergency response system in Kenya. To date, we have sent almost $7000 to our members there, much of it in the form of phone credits (which can be bought there, or through MamaMikes here), which have been used both for communicating throughout the country, and also in exchange for food and even safe transport. Our members have given credits to friends and colleagues too, expanding the network further. We are getting so many reports of needs, especially for food. Tom Ochuka of Deaf Impact Ministry is a member here as well. Will close for now with greatest thanks and hopes that we can work together on this, Chifu and many more! Blessings to all, Janet Re: Who Can Help St Rita's (award-winning children's org in Kisumu)? > >Janet, > >I got a phone call with a great lady a Kenyan and a teacher who is very >much interested in helping out. > >We need to compile a legitimate list of organisations that need help. >It is imperative that we do this within the next 24 hours.
