I recall the days in Chennai when I had the opportunity to work closely with him. He had a lot of ideas and the drive to implement them, despite all odds. We were all happy about the fact the first PLWHA network in India was founded in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and became a model and an apex body for many other state level positive people's networks; just as TNSACS, the first state level AIDS control society was formed in Tamil Nadu in 1994 and became a model for the rest of India. TNSACS was proud to support INP Plus in its formative days. One of the key founders of INP Plus served as a Member of TNSACS Executive Committee. Both TNSACS and INP Plus learned a lot from each other through this association and this made the AIDS control efforts in Tamil Nadu sensitive and responsive to PLWHA issues. I think the best way to remember Ashok Pillai would be for all of us to continue the work he initiated and sustained during his lifetime. S.
