They have decided to pool theirresources in response to the recent post-election violence followingthe disputed December 27th Kenyan General Elections, in order torally fellow Kenyans and concerned global citizens to bring an end tothe violence and strife currently tearing our nation apart.KCA hopes that this initiative will inspire the Diaspora to arise asone and lend a voice of calm and sanity. Distance does not separateus from the country we love, nor does is excuse us from respondingwhen we hear cries of help from across the oceans.In Boston, Massachusetts, The Roxy will throb to a Kenyan beat thisSaturday, February 2, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Wainaina, Kenyanpopular music star and Berklee College of Music alumnus, and Kithene, recipient of CNN's 2007 Heroes Award, will be featured.Kithene will be the evening's keynote speaker. The KCA will also berepresented by its President, Ms. Mkawasi Mcharo Hall. All funds willgo to the Kenya Red Cross to assist in easing the human crisis inKenyaAccording to the Kenyan Red Cross, 575 people have been killed andapproximately 300,000 internally displaced (IDPs). The majority ofthe displaced are from poor areas, and in the midst of the ethno-political tension and polarization, lies an IDP crisis waiting toimplode, begging for quick intervention.VUMA KENYA! not only strives to highlight the plight of theinternally displaced, but also to encourage productive, peace-centered efforts to evoke change.
