Maureen is on this list isn't she as Maureen Durkin? She is a nurse. We see Dr. Annette Cartaxo, a developmental pediatrician, in Princeton, NJ. She is wonderful. For clarification, there is a Maureen McDonnell RN who works with Dr. Baker and she is in NJ. You can find her number on the DAN practitioner list. I am Maureen Durkin RN and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I work with my clients individual pediatricians and use a DO for chelation. There are alot of maureen's on these lists, because being Irish seems to be a common trait in our kids (jewish seems common too) On another subject concerning mitochondrial dysfunction. I was at a conference and it was stated that children inherit their MOTHERS mitochondrial DNA. I remember it well because , I thought my poor kids! This could explain why so many of the mom's I see are fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue patients. I will go through my notes. But i know COq10, NAC and alpha lipoic acid are indicated as you know. Guest guest
Is mito disease really inheritable or a pass along of mom's mercualism? Guest guest
--- Kathy, What I hearing you ask is if the mitochondrial dysfunction is due to genes or environment? And in this case the environment being the mercury. I think both. I think there is a genetic component to what we are seeing with our kids and why this is being " expressed " now is because of the drastic changes in the world in the last 50 years. I believe the straw that broke the camels back was the addition of the HIB and Hepatitis B vaccination in the early 90's. Which we now know contains mercury. Also when people receive these shots at different ages they have different outcomes. I know one child who developed CFS after her MMR at 13. So take genetics change diet, environment and lifestyle and you will have differnet outcomes. Unfortunately for our children not positive outcomes. When you look at repairing the mitochondria you must first remove the agent in the body that activates the immunlogical system. Removing can include toxic metals (always), parasites, food allergens, toxic enviroment, non-nutirents yeast, viruses etc. Then you restore balance thru use of what I would call redox-acive substances (not important just big word) like N-acetyl- cysteine, lipoic acid, vitamin E and flavanoids like grape seed extract quercitin etc. You would then restore mitochondrial membrane integrity by administering essential fatty acid, such as alpha lipoic acid, fish oil (EPA & DHA) I wouldn't use flax seed oil, because many people don't convert flax to the EPA & DHA part your brain and nervous system needs. That's a long answer, but I hope I answered your question. Maureen D. ?
