Moderator] Dear Forum members, Almost a year has lapsed, since lots of commitments were made and vows were taken by various national representatives to wage a global war against HIV/AIDS. Sad truth is that very little happened! The day UNGASS was endorsing a 103-point declaration, I along with friends from the Netherlands was initiating a three-day workshop on Prevention and Care for people affected by HIV/AIDS in India. We had friends at the workshop, who joined us from New York. Many of us were skeptical, yet we all sincerely hoped and prayed that something would come out of it. None among us had predicted September 11th. It happened and the AIDS conference held in Australia; that may have been first call to the nations to prove their commitment was lost in the sidelines of the newspapers and media. Many of you are now preparing for Barcelona. It is time for us to review what we have been proposing and to what extent it is relevant? It is with this purpose that I am posting a summary report of the workshop we had organized in Amsterdam from 27th to 29th June under the aegis of ICSSR's, Indo-Dutch programme on Alternatives in Development. The workshop was co-convened with Dr. Inge Hutter of Groningen University, The Netherlands and was coordinated by Marc Verhagen [co-ordinator IDPAD]. However, this report is prepared by me and I alone shall be responsible for any statements, observations, comments and interpretations of the presentations. I shall be anxiously awaiting your comments and critique. With best wishes, Shalina Mehta e-mail: shalinamehta@... __________________________________________
