Dear Forum Members:

This is in reponse to the message from " PHO " <ihoaids@...> seeking

Additional information on isolation of 'Hanuman Virus'

I was appalled to see a fellow forum member naming a HIV virus after Hanuman.

Have we lost all sensitivity to our fellow human beings who have a special

reverance to Hanuman? Please be sensitive as we are all social/health

professionals.

Thanks in advance

Dear friends,

I fully endorse the views expressed by Dr. Pardeep Goel. He is right when he

says that we all are socio-health workers and need to learn to respect

sentiments, values and traditions of community we wish to serve. Otherwise how we

will expect accepatability.

To name a virus after Shri Hanuman amounts to hurting the sentiments of a large

community. If it has been done it must be reversed immediately.

Dear Dinesh,

What you say is right that we must take care of sentiments of people. But

don't make it into an issue also. There are many things like that go by

without being noticed also. When, communal forces call themselves, 'Sivasena

don't the sentiments of Sivites get affected. But then nobody makes a noise

We all make issues when someone names a shoe or bag with our gods name. But

we easily put lot of western names, which we easily is the name of saints

and kings to our dogs and pet animals.

But none cares. Then I see the sign AUM' sitting on top of flag post in all the

street corners of India placed by a political party. I think that is the most

desecrated thing to happen to such a sacred sign. But nobody cares. Let us not

close our eyes when it is a big fish. So, please don't make an issue of a non

issue

Love

Maitreya
