Guest guest
HIV: Finally a clear statement that all HIV-positive people should be treated immediately! Most doctors had been waiting until T-cell counts dropped below a specific number. This has never made sense to me... Never... not even 25 year ago! Fear of long-term side-effects was exaggerated. Today, we have newer medications with lower side-effect profiles than ever, and many of the older medications have good long-term-side-effect tack records, so waiting to see the patient's immune system being destroyed before starting treatment makes less sense than ever (actually it never made much sense and was misguided). Also, remember that treatment equal prevention, because successfully-treated patients (with undetectable viral loads) are far less able to spread HIV even during unprotected sex. Immediate treatment for all with HIV is long overdue because it's in the best interest of the individual patient as well as the entire community. Like it or not, this is the truth.
