Hi ~ New to the List - Pertussis

Hi,

I'm new to this list. We have chosen to not vaccinate my son who is 35 months

old, almost 3. He was exposed to pertussis 15 days ago, right after having the

flu, and right before he got pneumonia.

The incubation period for pertussis can be up to 21 days long.

So, I'm curious to hear about other people's experiences with pertussis on this

list, and in any homeopathic advice.

Some people, I know would recommend Pertussin 30C or Drosera 30C

prophylactically while others are saying that giving remedies preventatively can

cause disturbances that aren't worth causing -- better to wait until the

diagnosis is confirmed.

The thing is, because he's had two recent respiratory illnesses, and because I

don't see any benefit to him establishing life-long immunity to pertussis at age

3, I would like to avoid for him to get it.

I know I'm through the worst part of the incubation period and that he'll

probably be fine, but I am looking for advice, and asking for it, so you can

give it to me.

He played with the other child, age 2 1/2 at a birthday party on and off for 3

hours. The other child had the beginning cough then (mother thought it was a

cold); a week later it was confirmed that he had pertussis (with whooping sound

and episodes of coughing ending up in face turning blue..) The throat culture

was also positive.

So anyone on the list recommend giving one of the above remedies preventatively

or anyone who would suggest waiting until I would see any symptoms?

Thanks,

Joyce Kehoe

Joyce, if it was me, I'd be starting with the appropriately large doses of

vitamin C. In large enough doses, C has been shown to cut the duration of

the illness in half. Plus it is a fantastic detoxifier so I'd be starting

now.

As a sidenote, I understand there is probably no such thing as lifelong

immunity to whooping cough.

Divide the number of pounds by 2.2 to get the kilograms your child weights

and then multiply times 200 for minimum mg per day

40 pounds divided by 2.2 = about 18 kilograms X 200 mg per kg of body

weight = 3636 mg or 3.6 GM

OR X 375 mg (hi end) = 6818 mg or 6.8 gm

See below

(this seems reseaonable to me - but monitor how she/he handles in the bowel

- diarrhea, etc)

Wouldn't use Drosera!

Some homeopaths would consider Pertussin though in extreme situations where

someone is depleted and at more risk from getting pertussis. Age 3 isn't

usually that difficult for Pertussis, but his respiratory weakness is what

I'd be concerned about. He really should see a homeopath though to get at

the root of that.
