Guest guest
According to Amy Holmes' protocol, the reason children who cannot swallow pills are prescribed Chemet rather than DMSA-SR is precisely because the Chemet capsules can be opened. If your capsules are DMSA-SR compounded time-release, though, the capsule is part of the time-release so could only be opened and divided if you were to put the capsule portion back into another capsule. (I did this with DMSA-SR, but had empty capsules for the split portion.) As for putting it in food. Again, this is not possible with the time-release DMSA. But with the Chemet, I would assume that a pureed food like applesauce, or a syrup like honey, is better than liquid. Vitamins and minerals tend to sink in liquids, so this might, too. And if it dissolves instead of sinking, but tastes as bad as it smells, a small spoonful of honey or applesauce is easier to get down a child than a tall glass of nasty-tasting liquid. Good luck. Lorilyn [ ] DMSA When you have a 100 mg capsule of DMSA, how do you get a 30 mg dose out of it? If you open the capsule do you alter the action of it? Can you give the granules in a liquid or will it change the absorption or action? These are questions I need to know so we can get started. Our pharmacy only has the 100mg capsules. Thank you!
