Yes I am happy about it. He was recommended by a chiro's wife,so it does pay

You're lucky to have such a great Dr. I go in on Friday to tell Austin's Dr.

I don't want any more vax. (He'll be 4 months in a week he had DTaP,

pnuemonococca, and Hib at 2 months that caused hoarseness for 3 weeks and

hives. The ER Dr said he would need a crash cart to have any more vax). I'm

crossing my fingers, I'm not good at confrontation but this I have to be. Any

advise?

I am not good at confrontation either.I was more worried about him messing

with my ds's foreskin than the vax issue. What I have done each visit(this was

the second, but the vax issue did not come up when ds was 2.5 weeks old) was

write up a page and give it at the desk telling them to put it on top of the

medical file.

On the paper I would write ds's name, the date, birth stats, basics on what he

is doing, any health concerns. Then in bold large text I would write specific

DO NOT's and other info.Such as:

Please do not retract the foreskin or give rectal temps.

In your case you can write something to the effect of:

NO VACCINATIONS AT THIS VISIT

NO FUTURE VACCINATIONS

You can write this up and then have the doctor sign it when he comes in and

before he examines your son. Also then he can write down info on it for ya.

You really don't have to explain yourself, but if they ask I would simply

repeat the crash cart recommendation you were given and that it simply is not

worth the risk.

There are many children that are healthy and UNVACCINATED,so don't concern

yourself with the " if you don't vax your baby he will die " . We can die at any

time, that is life.In your sons case it sounds like vaccines would just speed

him along to poor health and possible death much sooner.

You can take a friend for support.I only have pro-vax friends, and dh is

pro-vax so taking anyone was a waste of time.I figured if they threw me out

they threw me out,but the kids still would not get any vaccines. I am not

even into WCC,but do them to appease dh.

If the doctor/staff just keep harping on you,and won't drop the subject then

it is time to walk out.

I faintly recall a few stories where the doctors harped, the parent

waivered/listened,and that gave just enough for the nurse to rush in and vax

the baby before the parent even had time to react.

I would have to question the worth of even going to that doctor if he did not

acknowledge the last reaction. If he would not acknowldege that one then

perhaps it is best if you just look for another right now.I mean why go

through the emotional trauma when you already know he denies the first

reaction.

It just kills me that some doctors are so die-hard on giving shots even when

they are obviously contra-indicated.

I can't tell you how good it feels to walk out of a WCC or pass a month when

vaccines are usually given and not have to worry about the after effects of

the shots. It always makes me sad to read the WCC updates of kids my sons

age,see the list of shots they get,and then a day/week later read of how ill

they are.Ofcourse the parents usually says, " Oh he must have had a cold coming

on,and the vaccines certainly did not help. " Duh! the vaccine probably caused

the ill health!

Good luck to you! I hope it goes well.

Hi Jenni, I'm not Sara, but I think having the ER doctors statement

verified, would be a good idea. If you think your Ped. will be

confrontational over the issue, I would just state that I'm not

risking my child's life.

My son had a reaction to the prevnar vaccine at 9 months old. The

Ped. told me " we just won't give him that vaccine again. " Well, he's

not receiving ANY MORE vaccines.

Practice with someone. Just be firm. Remember you are the mommy!

He may kick you out -be prepared! If he does it is a blessing in disguise

as I wouldn't want a pediatrician who didn't allow me to have an opinion

and choice. Don't get into a discussion, don't try to explain - you will

nver be able to. Just say no - and keep repeating it like a mantra. You

don't have to explain. He is not your father and you are not 10 years old ;-)

hi,

i must say something here. you may not be good at confrontation but your

love and concern for your son outweighs any feeling of inadequacy. feel

blessed it was only hoarseness. you don't want to push your luck. if there

is a problem find another doctor. my DIL travels approximately 1 1/2 hours

with the children to see an alternative pediatrician.

I feel lucky every day it was only hoarseness and hives. I know it could have

been so much worse. Thank you all for your support I'll let you know what

happens.

That's awful!! That poor boy!

Kay

I have heard horror stoires on this list! One woman ped went right in - in

front of the other children - and forcibly retracted a child - 6 or 8 or 9

something like that in age.
