Guest guest
The India Express 19 April 2002 Maharashtra govt agrees to provide help to HIV patient MUMBAI, APRIL 18: THE Maharashtra government today attempted to make amends to solve the dilemma of providing free medicines to a 13-year-old HIV patient, who contracted the disease through a blood transfusion at a government hospital. The state government's stance comes after it was severely criticised by the Bombay High Court for not making attempts to solve the situation and pleading that since there was no programme to help the HIV positive patients, the state could do nothing in the case. Advocate-General Goolam Vahanvati, who was called before the court, told the division bench that he would directly speak to the minister concerned and in a show of sympathetic discretion, the girl may be helped. _______________________ Dr.Jagdish Harsh ( jharsh@... ) Director of Administration and Operations François-Xavier Bagnoud (INDIA)( www.fxb.org ) _______________
