I am SO excited! We just got back from our local high school's

winter homecoming, and I want to share a happy story with you.

Murielle's preschool teacher (Chris) has a 20 year old son with Down

syndrome who attends Napoleon High School. He will graduate this

spring. Well, we have been following events at the school for the

last few weeks, as Al was one of the young men nominated for

Homecoming king. He made the cut when the field was narrowed from 11

to 5, and then again when two more candidates were eliminated. For

the past week, has been SO excited that her son even made it

THAT far, thrilled that he has been accepted by his peers, and

admired by many as a man who will talk to all, regardless of social

group.

Well, tonight, Al made it! He is KING! I have to say, I couldn't be

happier if he were my own son! The reporter from the local paper was

there, and I am sure it will be publicized over the weekend. I'll

send a copy of the article...

Thanks for listening! It feels like a small step toward acceptance

for all of our kids!

& gt; & gt;Well, our son,, 21 w/ down syndrome, was telling us about the

& gt; & gt;conference last weekend and discussing some of the presenters. He

& gt; & gt;said that they spoke at the downtown syndrome last weekend. Dh and I

& gt; & gt;rolled quietly on the floor hoping not to upset him. He has never

& gt; & gt;been interested in knowing that he has DS. Guess this was the first

& gt; & gt;time hearing about it.
