Guest guest
Dear Kat, As you know , I am not well trained in this methodology. I just had some ideas on this. You could turn off a favorite video and say " we'll watch the rest in a minute " Prompt " When can we watch the rest? " Answer him " In a minute. " Let a minute go by and turn it back on . You could do this many many times in one sitting. You could expand to " let's watch the rest after dinner " P- " When can we watch the rest? " Answer him " After dinner. Eat dinner (or pretend to ) turn it back on. You could do this whenever he wants to do something. Bike riding, swimming, swinging P- " when can I ride my bike " Answer " After you go potty. Send him to the bathroom and then out to ride. In the beginning the video thing would work better as it is more immediate. You could also use food.Put out something he likes alot and something he likes less. When he mands for the favorite item, tell him " you can have it after you eat ______. " Then p- " when can I eat ________? " " After you eat______ " As he gets good at it you can tell him that you are going to see a movie later and prompt him to ask every few minutes " When are we going to see toy story? " You could tie in time by having the teaching clock with toy story on five o'clock( I think that's how the teaching clock works!) Show him and say " at 5 o'clock! " You'll know he's got it when he starts pestering you this way! Driving somewhere is good too P " When will we be at the playground? " " In a minute " I could go on and on ! This is really about the way that we taught asking when in our program. Though I'm sure we could have used more intensity and gotten it faster!
