Guest guest
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/south_east/7168538.stm Down's daughter helped save mum A paramedic has praised the quick thinking of a woman with Down's syndrome who helped save her mother's life after she had a heart attack. Sally-Anne Bourne, 40, phoned 999 which alerted paramedic Andy Ellis who rushed to the scene in Whitchurch, Cardiff, in his rapid response vehicle. Mr Ellis said Ms Bourne's swift action meant her mother Barbara, 72, had made a good recovery. Mrs Bourne said her daughter was the "hero of the hour". After her mother suffered her heart attack, Ms Bourne, a former Welsh international disabled swimmer, dialled 999 and answered a series of questions and then placed a cushion under her mother's head "I'm so proud of her," said her mother Mrs Bourne. "She was the hero of the hour. I was lucky she was here when I collapsed. 'Real danger' "I had a feeling of nausea and I was unsteady. I sat down but I thought I was going to be sick and got up immediately and my blood pressure dropped and I fell as I was trying to get to the kitchen." The widow added: ""If it wasn't for the excellent work done by Sally-Anne and the paramedic my life would have been in real danger. "She refers to it now and again and I think she's quite proud of what she did and how professionally she dealt with it. I see her smiling and she says to me, 'I rang 999, didn't I?'" Paramedic Mr Ellis, 30, said Mrs Bourne's condition would have got worse if it had been left untreated. "Sally-Anne did brilliantly because even if her mum had survived she would probably have suffered significant damage to her ticker and that could reduce her life span," he added.
