Guest guest
The work on neurogenesis was done on monkeys. Marmasets to be specific. This work was done over 20 years (from 1988 until the present) by a Dr. Gould. She was studying stress and the brain's response to it. By good scientific observation she discovered neurogenesis in the adult monkeys. Her observations were criticized and ridiculed by her peers. In 2000 Dr. Gould was redeemed when her studies were duplicated and confirmed. Dr. Rakic, neurologist fromYale, wrote Dr. Gould a public apology for his criticism. Dr. Mobley at Stanford is not studying neurogenesis. He uncovered the mechanism of why DS lose neurons. They degenerate because the transport system for nerve growth factor is broken. Therefore, NGF is produced in the proper amounts but cannot reach its targets because the carrier is broken. I had a discussion w/ Dr. Mobley about treating with NGF. He does not think it will help because the transport system is still not operating. They brought the dormant nerves back by pouring NGF directly on brain slices. I will pull up and list the studies on prozac. There are many studies that show prozac stimulates neurogenesis. Dr. Dumon has been studying and trying to figure out how prozac worked since the early 1990s. Never miss a thing. Make your homepage.
