Guest guest
I should preface all this by stating the subject matter was about medicating children with behavioral / depression / anxiety and some personality disorders. It was not specifically about medicating children with DS for the purpose of better brain development. This rather talked about the results of using the meds. But in the end the subjects are related because the out come and long term effects are what it is all about. I actually need to watch it again tonight. It was very intriguing and a little scary. But after sleeping on all the info I still say a parent working with their child's providers knows when medicating is necessary/appropriate. I also thought that some of the children show cased had issues that should have first been resolved through better parenting (of course I have not walked a mile in those parents shoes). There needs to be a good understanding that the effect of the long term use of these medications (in children) is still not known. The part that scared me most was that there are NO studies by the pharmaceutical companies in children. They have no incentive to produce the studies. President Clinton gave cancer med manufactures an incentive (extended time on pattens=$$$$) to produce studies in children. Hopefully we can see that happen again with SSRI and anti psychotic drugs. I also walked away from it thinking there clearly is a great deal of confusion amongst the psychiatric and pediatric community about when it is appropriate to use meds and what treatment plan is appropriate. There is too much experimentation for a class of drugs that still are not completely understood in children. I will watch it again on line tonight. Just my two cents. nna Mommy to Freddie 6 yrs Full Inclusion Kindy (Again-But it's a good thing!!!) --- Carlson <scarlson1@...> wrote: > I have not watched it yet but I taped it on my DVR.. > I saw it advertised a week a go and set my timer to > record.
