Guest guest
Hi, I'm usually a " lurker " and don't post much. I'm Joy and have 2 boys with DS and one of them also has Autism...I'm having problems that they do Not want to be in their twin beds (Step 2-Lifestyle beds, very nice beds btw) and they don't like it at all. Climb out constantly but didn't do that and always went to sleep when they were in their crib beds w/the crib tents..they needed them, just trust me. They liked them too. We only use beds btw for nap (only one sometimes takes a nap, and the other little guy is way to busy for nap time:) or night time for bed/and no other reasons, just fyi. They are 5 and 6 yrs old now and outside their bedrooms-located on the 2nd floor, there is a hallway with a rail/banister that seperates the hallway from a drop off onto our first floor foyer. I can not move them to the first floor, as we've remodeled and all bedrooms are on the 2nd or 3rd floor. I am up usually all night placing them in bed again and again with firm reminders and simple reminders of night time, go to sleep...same thing all the time. The 6yr old wants to be back in his crib with the tent zipped. He can climb over the banister/railing and anything else btw that can be climbed. He has No fear. The 5yr old has no fear, but no strength, and not as good balance, creating a major danger. So I'm looking into enclosed beds for their safety. I know Veil beds have been recalled due to deaths, and there are other beds that meet requirements that are stricter because of what happened to veil and their recall/stopped manufacturing them from what I've heard. I have 3 different drs writing scripts as are the therapists my boys see. They know them, they know what we're going through, and feel this is best. The cribs are being used for now again for safety but they're outgrowing them. Anyone else on this group currently using a twin bed enclosed so the child can not get out? Any ideas (we've tried a zillion things btw to keep them in those Step 2 beds..they were not cheap) and the enclosed beds are not cheap either (used in nursing homes and hospitals primarily) Just curious if anyone else has or knows of anyone who has had to use these beds for their children and what do you think. Anything any of you might of done (can't lock the doors-against rules and considered unfair treatment, and we'd just never do it so not an option for us, not to mention we have 3 large windows (century old house) in that room and all it takes is one time not hearing one get up and get in that window and it'll be as bad or worse as the drop off over the railing and banister in the hallway. Structurely we can Not have a wall in place of that banister railing, so that's out too. We've checked into many things. It seems to be a last resort. Anyone..any ideas. No doubt if we get these beds, our documentation will be on file everywhere to prevent problems. These are beds, not to be used for anything but, and I know others have misused them and given them a bad name (like cages instead of their purpose-Totally not our family ever-it upsets me to say the least to have heard about that when it was hapening), but there are some times things come up that they are helpful and have a purpose. Just asking if any of you use them or are thinking of them, or know of anyone? Any ideas or suggestions that we've not thought of? I have another option to assist for paying for these beds as they are expensive, and although I'm not positive about if they'll cover it or not, at least we have the documentation for it. The kids are on medicaid and it takes months to get approved and then they only pay up to 2k per bed...the least expensive I've found that is what we're looking for that appear to be what we've used with one of ours who had a recent hospitalization, is a great solid bed, and nice for them to give them room, and they can't hurt themselves due to changes they made to make different than Veil beds. Anyhow, looking forward to any responses please. Thank you for your time. Take care and God bless, Joy ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile.
