Guest guest
My son is in 1st grade and has DS and apraxia. The school is trying to move my son from inclusion to life skills because they want to increase his time in sped. He is making progress on his goals and objectives. He is learning sign and is very social. He does have weak fine motor skills. This will be the 5th school in 6 years that the district has moved my son too. Right now he is in his neighborhood school. The school gave us NO input on sped minutes and reg. edu. minutes. We have fought 5 years just to get the district to use sign language with him, now they are going to move him away from his speech therapist who knows sign. The school says they cannot modify the Texas Essential Knowledege Skills at the first grade level so that he can be included. They said if an inclusion teacher is in their then they have to label it sped minutes. Of course we disagreed and now we meet again in 10 days. I need articles and court cases that back up my position. My son is nonverbal and we don't want him taking an IQ test, but the school says they cannot do any formal evaluations without an IQ test. Thanks for any help. Lori
