Guest guest
Its scary to realise that a process of undermining the marginalised community, which started long time ago, is getting its momentum and trying to cover us with a grey cloud. I personally know Swapan (our very own Swapnadi) for a long long time as well as Agniva (if it is the same koti sister, whom also i know for quite some time) then its really bad and i am so sorry about the whole situation... but rather than just being only sorry, we need some action..... I personally been attacked various times, in Maidan, Esplanade, Minto Park, Lake, Sealdah area while I did my short term outreach work with now defunct Calcutta Naz or DMSC, or even in the beginning of my career with CINI-ASHA. This period stretches between 1995 till 1998 before my migration to the UK. But what I gathered that things have not changed much as no body came in support of them, similar to my experiences when i had to fight my own..to the local Gundas, the security guards or even police. what i am going to propose is to start a campaign in favour of our brothers and sisters and against the abuse and threats we face in our everyday life. not only electronic, as it still out of the reach of the larger community , but also physical movements. Kolkata has a fair number of agencies (exclusively MSM oriented or others who work in the periphery), is it possible to bring them under a umbrella and start a proper programme against these violence? would appreciate comments and in solidarity with PLUS friends..
