I thought maybe others would like to have the list: Dear and others - The MEER manuals 1 and 2 available from Lingua Systems are a wonderful source of list such as this. They have a quite extensive list of " labels of parts " and " labeling by attribute " to name two. You are supposed to say " Tell be something that is big " SOme other suggestions dry, slow, square, hot etc For parts : " Tell me something that has ears " feathers, holes, windows, wheels, etc. These books have been and continue to be indispensible to me ! Guest guest
My foster daughter has mosaic down syndrome. Her biological 12 yr old brother also has down syndrome. He looks much more severe than she, and actually is. She often doesn't even look like she has ds except when she is chewing on her tongue or pouting (frequent, lol). His facial muscles seem lower and his tongue protrudes more so it is obvious that he has it. Her eyes, to me, look ds, but not to others. My son can barely look like he has DS or he can be very obvious about it, (Like now when his head is totally SHAVED!) He also has the clogged tear ducts and his eyes drain and tend to get puffy. When he is on antibiotics for ear infections he looks REALLY good and that is when I usually get his picture taken!!

Guest guest
HI Sara to me looks like she has DS lol when she is tired or ill her eyes will pull in. We did have the surgery to correct this yrs back but the DR told me this is something we may have to do again. The surgery wasn't for cosmetic reasons but for her vision. When Sara was younger she was quite thin. A lot commented that she's not going to have the " DS weight problems " now she has a tummy but I don't think this is DS related lol Mike's family all have this belly Another thing lol when Sara was about 10 months old my younger (12 yrs younger lol) sister asked me not to fix Sara's hair, dorky lol she was in college beginning to work on her teaching degree and had a volunteer job at a small country EI. She told me that so many moms didn't spend time on their daughters hair. Now after being on this list and listening, I don't really think it was the parents not wanting to fix a child's hair but possibly sensory issues with the little girls. Anyway because my sister said this I let Sara grow her hair to her rear and (possibly lol) made Sara very vain when it comes to her hair wow the power of a statement, and how it can influence a parent lol Kathy mom to Sara 11 (^) (^) (^) (^) (^) ,,\)/,,,\)/,,,\)/,,,\)/,,,\)/,,

Guest guest
Hi, also looks like her features for ds are more prominent when shes sick or very tired. When she was a baby she looked like her dad, alot. Now that shes a tweenager, she looks very much like me and I take that as a huge compliment! So if shes looking like her parents who dont have DS, then I guess she basically looks like she doesnt have DS (which she does and I often get that ridiculous comment- " she doenst look like she has Down Syndrome " , well she does, DUH!) And I agree- the hair makes all the difference. its funny she wanted her hair long like all the other tweenagers- i was kinda happy about that, so now they really do all look alike! (But fear not, shes still got her own individuality!!) ~ Mom to 12 DS and Diabetes Type 1 and 8 NY

And >I agree with whomever posted about assuming the child is more " mild " if >the features are less prominant..... we have found that out time after >time, and I have given up trying to educate the world on this one...... > My daughter has mosaic ds and it is amazing how many of the kids with mosaic have no physical features at all. I have seen no pattern to indicate the presence or absence of features has any bearing on level of functioning. In a way I think a lack of features would make it harder dealing with our ignorant society because if your kid looks typical they expect them to act typical which leads to stupid questions. Another thing with mosaicism is people (especially new parents) think the number of cells affected is an indicator of how well the child will do. Although it would seem that it would, this is misleading too because every cell line in the body can have different percent affected. The blood or skin cells are normally the only ones tested. Guest guest
Hi ! We were in Vegas this weekend, too - just got back home at 12:15 this morning! Tim breaths better in dry heat and the beach. We are moving to the Myrtle Beach area in 5 years. All my kids look alike - and one nephew clearly could be my kid, too! You can tell he and are related.
