2 die of AIDS in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Out of the 8 people tested HIV positive

after blood test in the district, 2 people have died.

On the other hand, negligence of state AIDS Cell in

controlling the spread of the disease in the district

has spread resentment among residents here. A local

NGO ‘Biswa’ has expressed its deep concern over these

deaths.

Chairman of the NGO Khirod Chandra Mallick has stated

that during a state level health camp organized here

in April this year, blood samples of 16,271 people

were tested. Out of them, 37 were found HIV positive.

Meanwhile, among the 8 people of Sambalpur who were

detected HIV positive, 2 persons including a college

student have died of AIDS. Mallick also said that

these 8 people also include two women. Although the

state AIDS Cell was apprised of these deaths, its

sluggishness in taking any action is very unfortunate,

he added.
