Guest guest
I am using a Back To Basics Smoothie Freeze; it has a spigot on it. I used a regular blender before the container developed a large chip at the base and was satisfied with the results. I would like the Jack Lalane juicer if I could afford it! I have seen them in the thrift store; they wanted $68 but very nice. Blenders usually get warm/hot if you use them too long. Take a spoon or knife and push it down or mix it up. Remember to remove the spoon however as you don't want metal flakes in your smoothie! I usually add 8 oz of ice cubes to my smoothie maker/blender first; then if I have any greens (ex: spinach, kale) next and then 2-3 other fruits/veggies and ground flaxseed, wheat germ, fiber, Stevia (or Splenda), protein mix, milk or juice and blend. I usually get about 24 oz., so if you want less, use less fruit/veggies. I usually use a banana to thicken my smoothie. When using greens, like broccoli, spinach and kale, add pear juice or pears to eliminate bitterness. Tomato does not blend well with other fruits and vegetables unless cucumber, celery or green pepper and onion, add Tobasco sauce, salt and pepper. If using mustard greens, use only a little as it is very spicy! I usually use either milk and yogurt or fruit juice as the last ingredient. Apple and cranberry juice are recommended, however, I sometimes use orange, pear, apricot, pomegranate, etc. (probably more carbs). I like to use kiwi (and grape)in my smoothies when I make them. The veggie smoothies are probably better for you than the fruit ones but you can almost always add an apple. Celery and carrot go well together; you may want to add an apple. You may want to try watermelon and strawberry with apple or kiwi and juice if needed or watermelon, cabbage and honey with juice if needed. I wasn't enthusiastic about the melon smoothie I made; it needed something! Note: You may tend to gain weight if you drink too many smoothies! I have a long list of things you can blend together and several smoothie books with recipes. I understand they are good with vanilla although I have never tried it. Good luck on getting your husband to drink the " green " smoothies! ~ Joy > > It's the juicer that is hot...the juice is fine. > > > In a message dated 6/24/2012 10:08:22 A.M.
