Guest guest
The Conucopia Institute has sounded the alarm about the degradation of Organic Standards by Agribusiness gaining control of the appointments to the National Organic Standards Board(NOSB). Unfortunately they rely on appeal to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and NOSB chaiman Barry Flamm to correct this. If they did listen to you they would be replaced. www.conucopia.org Unfortunately the Secretary is comitted to biotechnology and NOSB, does not have the political power to defend the integrity of organic standards. Your legislators do have that power and I am forwarding an action alert that asks them to get involved in protecting Organic Standards. Please click on Take Action on the issue of allowing synthetic and genetically engineered DHA and ARA in Organic Baby Food. Arnold GMOs Out of Organic Baby Food! Tell the National Organic Program to Get Martek Biosciences' Life'sDHA & Life'sARA Out of Organic Martek Biosciences claims that they are non-GMO, but the Organic Consumers Association has learned that their products are genetic engineered, processed with volatile synthetic solvents and microencapsulated, three things that are expressly banned from organic. Tragically, Martek's Life'sDHA and Life'sARA are already in hundreds of products, including certified USDA Organic infant formula, baby food and dairy products. The National Organic Program is trying to remedy this situation by conducting a formal review of Martek's products. Please urge the USDA National Organic Program to inform the company that the illegal 2006 approval is rescinded and that their GMO, solvent-extracted, microencapsulated Life'sDHA and Life'sARA are not allowed in organic products.
