Barbara,

I think that sounds like a great idea! I use a deodorant spray that I make

using grain alcohol (Everclear), water and some essential oils considered to

be deodorizing/anti-bacterial. I have been very pleased with the results. I

usually mix up 2-4 oz at a time. I have been trying to get my girls to use

something like this, but they are a hard sell. They don't like the fact that

it doesn't keep you totally dry. How does the baking soda/corn starch

mixture do in that department?

hi all-

>some baking soda in a bowl, then using my hands I mix in a few drops tea

>tree oil, and you can mix in a few drops of a nice scented eo that would be

>gentle to the skin if you like

yay! thank you barbara! i do something similar on non-work days, but i don't

use tea tree. i put a 1/2 cup of cornstarch and a 1/2 cup of rice flour in a

blender until it is spinning without dust, then i add approx. a tablespoon of

chlorophyll in a thin stream until the mix looks green. then i add 20 drops of

peppermint eo, 10 of rose eo, and 10 of myrrh eo (which i LOVE beyond reason).

this is something i came up with based on a combination of a thai antiperspirant

powder, which is very cooling but does have some alum in it, and the knowledge

that rose eo has antibacterial properties. after showering i put aloe vera

under my arms, and then dust with this powder.

now, i'm the type who sweats some even with the most intense antiperspirant -

does the baking soda you add help with that? since i frequently wear silk

shirts on work days, sweating too much isn't an acceptable alternative...

With all the talk on deodorants I'm was beginning to wonder if I'm the only

one out there that has never used any. I'm almost 40 and have never needed

to use deodorant. Am I normal. Thanks for the baking soda/cornstarch idea

just in case of what the future may bring. <g>

So you know, you are not alone! I've never had to use deodorant either.

My sister couldn't go without but I've never had any reason to use it.

The need for a deodorant also depends on the climate you are in. In dryer

climates the perperation evaporates off your skin quickly, not giving

bacteria a chance to grow in it, thus no odor. When u live in a humid

climate, a day after sweating leaves u needing a shower pretty bad <phew>

especially after working outside.

In my opinion, your not needing a deodorant has something to do with the

fact that you are in AZ.

THis is all just my opinion on this. I have lived in both type climates and

have seen a major difference.

No, I'm afraid you're not normal :-), but that's good! I've never know an

adult who didn't need deodorant. I thought it was a rite of passing. Even

my 10 year-old son needs it. You lucky dog, you!

Tana,

I would think that using more oil or less beeswax would give you a salve

consistency. Unless someone had a recipe you'd have to experiment.

Has anyone else tried Not using deoderant? I stopped a few months back

when I read about cancer and deo. Seems its not just the aluminum &

chemicals, but the fact of NOT sweating thats the problem. The sweat &

glands carry away toxins, when we don't sweat them out, they get backed

up.(like underwire bras, that don't allow our lymph & breast glands to

'drain' properly.) Anyway, I had a cpl. of sorta stinky days & then I

use some maybe the next day, & it seems to straighten it out. haven't

had to in quite awhile tho. I don't eat much meat, no dairy( lots of

soymilk. 'Silk & Sunsoy') And drink herb tea all day long. Anyway, some

of you already fragrant, soapy folks might find you don't need it

either. Can't beleive I used it for 30 years for nothing! Just trying to

cut down my breast cancer risks. Margaret

Basically, I don't care about 'research' founded by which company, out

to make a profit, or to promote their product. I know what I know, &

that is, every time you mess with natures design, for our bodies ,or our

enviroment, we pay a price. And that is usually manifest in a dis-ease.

These disease's are then usually touted as " incurable' or 'mysterious',

then we jump on some stupid bandwagon to raise $ for a cure, when the

enviromentalists were telling us 20 years previous to expect those

results.ly, I'm a bit weary of the dance.

I don't use deoderant that often. I have found for myself anyway that

when I sweat the only time I actually smell is when I don't feel good. I

know I am getting a touch of something or run down when I smell. Strange I

know but that is the way my body works. *S* So I don't use doederant. When

I am going out for the evening somewhere special I may either use a a roll

on from Avon or I will just use a little witch hazel. Seems to work for me.

I do this not out of any real concern for cancer (not ment lightly) but

mostly it is laziness on my behalf and I HATE it when it turns white and

ends up on my clothes. The witch Hazel works pretty well though.

I tried the crystal rock but it made me itch & then I tried making my own

deoderant with baking soda & lemon water & putting it in a stamp bottle with

a sponge on top. But the sponge kept falling off.

Now I just wash often & uses baking soda to scrub with. Maybe you can find

some unscented product that is safe & works for you. There are many brands. I

recommend them for my guests to use when visiting me.

Good luck

Hi Kerry,

There are deodorants, which are fragrance and alcohol free. I never had a

problem to tolerate those.

Baking Soda. It is not expensive and it works very well.

Thanks all, for the varied responses to deodorant queery.

Several people replied that baking soda (bicarb soda) is good and I thank

them for this. It has proved great for me - I wash with it, then when dry I

dust a little underarm. Today is a hot and humid day, and I can testify

that I am not offending myself at all. I am really pleased. A couple of

people replied 'why worry' - well, I for one, can't stand lying around with

a strong aroma bugging me. And it sure helps me to feel good about me if I

smell OK.

Thanks all, Kerry.

Hello, everybody!

This is my first post here, I subscribed yesterday! My name is Shendel, I live

in São o, Brazil and I am 27 yo, starting to adventure in the natural

cosmetics fabrication as a hobby. Oh, you may find some weird english

expressions in my posts, cause portuguese is my first language! :-D

Adding to Sydney post... I once had a coleague in college who sweat A LOT, I

mean, he got his t-shit all wet, when everybody else were dry (here is São o

is not as hot as in Rio or places at the north). He went to see his doctor and

did some exams and he had nothing!!! Oversweating was a natural reaction of his

body, at least as he continued to drink lots of water his body demands, he would

never get intoxicated. But I am not saying your friend should not go to the

doctor to see what is her/his problem!

I also just found out the best deodorant I ever used, a natural one, from Lush

(that natural handmade cosmetics brand from England). It is *very good*, both

the smell and its duration. Its name is " Aromaco " and smells patchouli. Where

are you? I know there is Lush of course in England, Canada, Japan and Australia.

Canada and Australia send to USA. Their website is http://www.lush.co.uk .

Nice to " meet " you all!!!

O.k. guys, I've got a friend with a major sweat problem who would like to

find some sort of remedy.

She uses that crystal deodorant but finds that she still sweats alot, which

isn't really a big problem in itself, but the odor is apparently really bad.

She feels the need to wash at least a couple of times a day, which doesn't

seem normal.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something natural she could make or

buy?

Thanks much.

Hi,

Perhaps your friend should see a doctor about the problem, there might be

something going on with his/her health. Drinking a lot of water should help

too. Deodorants do not stop " wetness " and the antiperspirants are really not

good for you. Your friend should try different kinds of natural deodorants and

might luck out and discover one that works better for his/her particular body.

Hi,

Rainbow Meadow sells them. I hope it is OK to post this information on the

list. I just made a big batch of deodorant tonight.
