Autism Spectrum Disorders involve difficulties in

social cognition in the areas of relationship building, emotional regulation and

social thinking. This presentation will give strategies based on these three

themes, teaching educators how they can help students with ASDs improve their

function wihin the school environment.

6 Critical Elements for Teaching Individuals with

ASD,

with Lori Ernsperger, Ph.D.

Dr. Ernsperger will share evidence based practices

and strategies for both increasing learning and promoting positive behavior,

along with ready-to-implement ways to develop predictable schedules, organize

the environment, create behavior intervention plans, and collect data for

progress monitoring. You will also learn scientifically based practice for

Applied Behavior Analysis and discrete trial teaching.

This interactive presentation focuses (Day 1) on

how to establish effective school-wide Discipline, Behavior Management, and

School Safety systems to increase students' interpersonal, social

problem-solving, conflict prevention and resolution, and emotional coping

skills, as well as their academic engagement and academic achievement. Using a

" Positive Behavioral Support " foundation, the workshop then (Day 2) discusses

Strategic and Intensive interventions to assist challenging students who are

behaviorally unsuccessful or non-responsive. For each intervention, the

following information will be provided: (a) problem situations where the

intervention is most-used or most useful; ( functional assessment outcomes

that necessarily link to make this intervention relevant; © the age levels

where the intervention will be most successful; and (d) the severity level of

the student and/or problem where the intervention will be most successful.

Participants may attend either day, or both days.

March 21 (Day 1) covers: Prevention Level

March 22 (Day 2) covers: Strategic and Intensive

Intervention Level
