Guest guest
Hi all: I got the email below from Connie Sims, who works for DHS/DDD. It is good to know that they are reading the comments being submitted. Her post contains some good information that helps to correct some misperceptions about what is in the waiver. I would also like some feedback about what you all think would be helpful in order to have a clearer understanding of Waiver services. My suggestion to Connie is that she or some of her staff join IPADDU and help to field specific questions, as they come up. Ultimately, I am not sure a lot of us have the time for a long session on Waiver 101, but as questions arise, it would be great to have those experts available to us to give us accurate information. What do you think? Ellen Ellen Garber Bronfeld egskb@... DD Comments on the Adult Waiver Renewal Ellen, I am working with Reta Hoskin, Casey, staff from the Dept. of Healthcare & Family Services and others here in the DD Division on the renewal of the Adult Waiver application. I have been reading the comments posted to our website. I want to thank you for sharing the comments you have received from the members of your advocacy group. I remember working with you on the HBS Committee that was chaired by Charlotte Cronin many years ago. I am reaching out to you to find out if you have ideas on how we can provide more education on what the waiver covers to improve the knowledge base of our consumers and potential consumers. I am reacting to some of the comments you sent from your IPADDU website (dated 12/25) about the Adult Waiver renewal. One individual, " Liz " , wrote that she would like to see respite services covered. Respite is covered as part of the definition of HBS Personal Support services. At the advice of family members, we decided to combine personal care and respite services into one service definition (called Personal Support) so that families would not have to track the two services separately for billing purposes. In your email, Liz also commented on wanting job coaching covered. Supported Employment (SEP) services are covered under the Adult Waiver for all participants. SEP services are defined as job coaching services. If you have ideas on how we can increase understanding of the current covered services, I would appreciate hearing your thoughts. We have more low cost training options like webinars and other electronic forms of communication to consider to help increase understanding. Again, I appreciate the time you have invested in giving individuals the opportunity to comment on the Adult Waiver renewal process and application.
