Arc and Grace Hou is Leaving DHS We are losing a great friend in Grace Hou. Is this email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser. Dear Ellen, I am very sad to report to you that Grace Hou is leaving her important work at DHS. Grace has been a strong advocate for the community and I will miss her support of The Arc. See her message below. Tony I wish I could talk with you all individually, but as always, time does not permit us to do all that we want. It’s with great excitement and sadness that I announce that, effective 1/31/12, I have resigned my position as Assistant Secretary of the Illinois Department of Human Services to serve as the President of the Woods Fund of Chicago. If you know the work of the Woods Fund of Chicago, I hope that you are smiling as you read this and understand why this next move in my career is the right one for me. The Woods Fund of Chicago strives for racial equality and social justice through participatory policymaking; therefore, in this regard, our work together will certainly continue. It has been my great honor to serve you, to serve our clients, and to serve our state as Assistant Secretary for the past 8 ½ years. I came to this position in June of 2003, blurry out of maternity leave with my first child – and I immediately felt embraced and educated by you from day one. All that I have learned about this job, I have learned from you and others who care about this work and the people of DHS. One of the best decisions I made when I came to DHS was to learn the work from those who know it and from those who live it. I am proud of the work that I have accomplished and believe that every decision I made was for the betterment of the less fortunate in our state. I have faith in our Secretary Saddler and our Division Directors and our able staff at DHS that they will push as hard as they can for the people who need care, concern, and assistance the most. Thank you for being there for me along this journey. The next leg of the trip will be an equally exciting one. As the President of the Woods Fund, I intend to help change the world for the better! Sincerely, Grace Tony auski Executive Director The Arc of Illinois 20901 S. LaGrange Rd.
