Hello everyone,

We are owners of a small business and as you can imagine especially with a child

with special needs - our insurance premiums are HUGE - more than our house

payment.

We are looking in to switching our insurance...we currently have BCBS PPO which

has been good. Our son also has the secondary All Kids through his support

waiver.

Wanted to see anyone had suggestions or experiences - here are some options...

Aetna

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois

Celtic Ins. Co.

Group Health Plan

Humana

IHC Group

My Health Alliance

Personal Care Insurance of Illinois

UnitedHealthcare

Thanks so much!

My family, including my adult son with disabilities, switched to a group plan

United Healthcare Choice PPO from BSBS PPO. It is cheaper but fewer doctors and

hospitals (i.e., Aurora's Rush Copley)accept it(the payment to them is

significantly lower than BCBS). United Healthcare website will list doctors and

hospitals in the area who accept it.

Do not let your current coverage lapse while you shop around. It is important to

maintain continuous coverage.

Some national organizations (ie, AARP) offer group coverage for members.

We own a small business and have a child with a pre existing condition. We

always choose a PPO to maximize physician options. United Healthcare restricted

us the most with regards to choices as well as the most out of pocket per year.

Humana had lower monthly fees but covered less in medications and specialists.

BCBS has offered competitive rates and they cover medications and medical

equipment at a higher rate which works best for our families needs. The other

carriers we have not chosen due to less coverage on comparable plans. The

current laws permit insurance companies to assign a max cap of 60% rate increase

per small group member if any member has a pre existing condition. Good luck!
