Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. I have a 14 year old daughter

and we're starting transition planning or at least I am for her. Anyone have any

good resources so I can learn this? I've been going to Google U. and am getting

overwhelmed.

Thanks,

Amy

We did NOT get enough off campus job transitioning done with Maverick.

Providing a job coach was not a priority. We had set up his IEP for what we

THOUGHT was going to be his last year of HS to be focusing strongly on job

training. Unfortunately, the staff that we felt worked well with Mav quit,

retired or moved to another school and we ended up pulling Mav out instead of

trying to work with a whole new team for just one year.

THAT meant that Mav started his work career early. He did not do well and is

now in a transitional program that will give him a year or so to get up to

speed. I really felt bad that we were saying.. Ok..you are out of school, you

are an adult, the rest of your life is work work work.. when he was emotionally

like a young teen. I am liking the buffer time between now and when we will get

serious about work.

That being said.. I would push for more on the job training type stuff if I were

you.
