Guest guest
How can she have both SSI and SSDI AND Circuit Breaker at the age of 19? From: tedmc@... Sent: Monday, January 23, 2012 4:51 PM IPADD IL Parents of Adults with Disa Subject: Vehicle registration & tile Vehicle registration & tile We have a special needs child who is 19 yrs. old. We are in the process of purchasing a wheelchair conversion van to transport her. My question is “Should her name be on the registration along with ours?†If it was we would get license plates at a reduced fee under circuit breaker. If we were to purchase the vehicle can I do the purchasing or should I contribute the $’s to her Special Needs Trust for the Trust to purchase? We pay a very low insurance rate now. Not sure if that would increase with her on the registration. Need to ask my agent. She has SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, Circuit Breaker, Adult Home Base, and a Link card. We do not want to lose any of her benefits over a minor savings. We are her legal guardian.

Guest guest
Putting your daughter's name on the registration would, I believe, give her a direct ownership stake in the vehicle (unless it's bought through the special needs trust), which may not be a good idea, given the various funding sources you mentioned she is getting. As for your premium rates, unless your child is going to be driving the vehicle, having her listed on the registration shouldn't matter (but check with your insurance company about that, as you indicate you're going to do) > > > Vehicle registration & tile > > We have a special needs child who is 19 yrs. old. Guest guest
Under SSI and Medicaid, the recipient is allowed to own ONE car- worth any amount - if it is: - necessary for employment or - need for transportation for medical treatment of a specific or regular medical isuue or - modified for operation by or for transportation of a person with a disbility or - needed to provide transportation for essential daily activities because of climate, terrain, remoteness or similar factors.  If the recipient's vehicle is not used for one of the above factors, then, in order for the car to be an exempt asset, it can only be worth $4500.  (Policy PM 07-02-05) ________________________________ From: " tedmc@...
