Guest guest
Hi- I did my daughter's guardianship ourselves.? Cost me like $15 to file.? It's not an easy straight forward process.? First $4000?seems WAY to expensive-- most here (WA state) are in the $1200-$2000) range.? You should be sure whatever lawyer you use knows develpmental disabilities guardianships, and not just general ones (for the elderly).? In this state the fee for the guardian ad litem ( the guardian appointed to investigate on behalf of your son) is paid for by the state if the persons estate is less than $2000--if your son is 18, it will be based on HIS income not yours.? I don't know if this is true in other states, but you should check.? I asked a friend of mine if I could look over her sons guardianship papers before I did it, to get an idea of language and how to set it up-- really helped, and I was able to copy portions or adjust it to fit my daughter.?? Sometimes courts have family law help offices-- our did, and I was able to have someone look at the paperwork before hand and check it before submitting (they can't do it for you)? THey also had a check off sheet of the process.? You also might contact your local Arc to see if they have any resources-- sometimes they have lists of good lawyers, ones who work at a discount, and clinics and such. Hope this helps, M ________________________________________________________________________ More new features than ever. Guest guest
If an individual has a guardian and is somehow coersed into applying for and getting a credit card, how is the person and guardian protected . A friend is considering guardianship of a sibling who had wracked up a great deal of credit charges and the parent paid off the charges. The sister does not want to have to be liable for a mistake like this. How does she get protected? Cindi
