Guest guest
Hi, Yes, I have respritory infections and flu-aches most of the time, and no one has answers and therefore no treatment - except to decrease sleep and increase exercise (might as well be " bled " as was done in 18th century!). I'm trying to find open minded doc for cutting edge treatment - I've had it with traditional docs who do not keep up either new research and treatments! I just read " Pride or Prejudice " so I'm a tad bit upset! Has anyone found answers to this problem??? CHristie tab@... Guest guest
This email is in answer to the bad runny noses question. I am sorry I can not answer the flu aches question. Wish I could. Re:Runny noses: I have dust mite allergy that got a million times worse after I got M.E/CFIDS. I survive by dustmite avoidance generally. That means special barrier sheeting on my bed and having no carpets, using a steam machine to denature the allergen. It does not cure me. I am used to living with a runny nose but it enables me to actually breath through my nose. It also lowered the sinus pains. If you show no allergies then you could try Dr Teitlebaum's protocol treatment of using prescription antifungal nosesprays on www.endfatigue.com (I think). I never got to try that antifungal nose spray. I do not live in the USA so could not get hold of a doctor to prescribe it. Instead I sometimes do inhalations and sniff grapeseed extract in warm sterile water up my nose. I think it helps. These websites might help you: http://www.immuneweb.org/articles/sinusitis.html http://www.immuneweb.org/articles/ http://www.sinuses.com/ They have been a wealth of information to me so I hope they help you. > >From: Radha21@... > > > >do any of u have constant runny stuffed noses? i have almost everyday, tried > >everything, sprays, pills which help for a while but then dont, i got tested > >for allergies but it was normal, has anything helped any of u? please let me > >know > > > >------------------------------------------------------------------ ------ > >Ta Da! Guest guest
[Moderator: Allergic responses can be a source of coagulation (and thus CFIDS symptoms). PubMed states that some 30% of allergic responses includes a triggering of coagulation. Anti-histamines stop the histamine response but NOT the coagulation response. Wherever possible, avoidance of the allergen is strongly recommended rather than masking the symptoms with anti-histamines. 2nd: sinus infections, I would strongly advocate pressing MDs for antibiotics (most of them are also effective against many CFIDS infections). See http://www.medicinenet.com/sinusitis/page4.htm I would advocate adding in bromelain, serrapetase, lumbrokineases if there is not a significant herx... Push for treatment of the sinus infection (do not mention the CFS aspect -- or you are asking for your request to be 'dismissed' Lastly, you may wish to use nasal sprays that contain agents to break down micro-films, EDTA and Chlorine Dioxide (tablets from outdoor providers)] I have a lot of allergies (have had for years) and now use Allegra, Nasonex nasal spray, Advair (for allergy asthma) and have for several years. I always have that slight cough/clearing of throat because of the constant drainage. I get a yearly sinus infection but this year tried something new. Suggested on this site was the Neti Pot but I didn't like the idea. However, the same company, Neill Meds, offers a Sinus Rinse nasal spray bottle for about $10 that has been a Godsend for me (no advertising or getting kickbacks from this). It is a larger bottle than the normal saline solution spray bottles (I buy at the dollar stores instead of paying $3 at other stores), includes several packets of saline and baking soda solutions that you pour into the bottle of slightly warm water (cold water hurts) and squeeze in each nostril over the sink while it flushes stuff out. Then I would blow and blow (gently) to get the rest out. I won't get gross but the stuff that came out while I had a very bad cold/sinus virus was nasty. Think about what I would have suffered if it had remained in my nasal passages. After each use I wash the bottle and top with soapy water to disinfect it so as not to reinfect myself. I was so stuffed up that I was doing this flush 2-3 times a day while I was so bad and getting the yellow/green junk out. I tried doing it with regular water and it burned, so the solution they have is helpful and does not burn. It took me 5-6 weeks to get over this virus, it was a very nasty one, even went on antibiotics as my lungs were wheezing and I had bronchitis, but the flushing the stuff out was so helpful. And it helps me breathe better at night so I can sleep better. I cannot sleep with stuffed sinuses, breathing through my mouth. If this happens I have to use a nasal decongestant and I try to avoid those as they will eventually burn a hole in your sinuses with continual use, that's why they say only 3-5 days at a use (my father-in-law did this). I hope this helps anyone else that needs it. It sure works well for me and will be a part of my regimen from now on. in La Selva Beach CA
Guest guest
I would also suggest that a sinus issues may also be caused by fungal infections, according to the Mayo Clinic report back in 1999: " The researchers studied 210 patients with chronic sinusitis. Using new methods of collecting and testing mucus from the nose, they discovered fungus in 96 percent of the patients' mucus. They identified a total of 40 different kinds of fungi in these patients, with an average of 2.7 kinds per patient. " And perhaps that's why the neti pot can often work, as baking soda (or sodium bicarbonate) is an antifungal. Dan p.s. Before I got CFS, or CFIDS, I would have 2-3 nasty sinus infections a year, but ever since I developed CFIDS, even though I can feel the infection is still there, it never turns into a full blown raging mess, with fevers, etc., except perhaps once every 3 years or more. In fact, it happened last year, and when I went to the store to buy kleenex I realized I hadn't bought any in probably 5 years. I guess that's why many still include the name " immune dysfunction " ... > > [Moderator: Allergic responses can be a source of coagulation (and thus CFIDS symptoms).
