Guest guest
This is very important to people in Texas. Be in Austin at the State Capitol 4/27/99 if you can. Thanks, Veda Jane CFS/FM news flash To all friends connected with the CFS/FM Support Group of DFW, I have some exciting news that I can't wait to pass on to you, even though the newsletter should be coming out in a week or two. Since the newsletter will contain a flyer on Cheney that you can share with your doctor or mail to him/her/them, it will be sent by snail mail to everyone this time. (In case my energy wanes and the newsletter gets out a little late, the April meeting is on the 20th at 7:00. The topic is " What works. " It's the one meeting we are having this year without an official speaker. It's an opportunity for members to share and learn from one another.) On April 27th the Texas House of Representatives will present a resolution declaring May 12th to be CFS/FM Awareness Day. It will be read aloud, anyone connected to a CFS/FM group recognized, and the resoution will be recorded into the House records. Pictures will be taken with Rep. Todd , who is sponsoring it. Most amazing is that Methodist HEB Hospital, who sponsors us, is providing airfare and hotel for (director of community relations) and me to go to Austin to be present when the resolution is presented. was at a large meeting of officials from several hospitals gathered to hear an update on all the healthcare legislation before the legislature. She spoke up and asked about the status of the resolution our support group had requested and asked if there was anything they could do to support it. The lobbyist checked and told her it was already listed on the docket. She said this meant a great deal to her, not only professionally since she worked with our group, but also personally since she suffered from FM!! Her boss came up to her later and said the hospital wanted her to go, and to invite me if I was able. Miracles never cease! At least one other member is flying down and members of the Austin support group and the /College Station group are planning on being present. Join us if you can. Dr. Cheney will be meeting with medical professionals during a luncheon catered by the City of Irving on May 15th from 12:00 to 1:30 at the Irving Central Library auditorium. From 2:00 to 5:00 he will present his seminar on CFS, which will include the similarities and differences of CFS and FM. His flight consists of two legs. One leg of the trip was covered by a round-trip certificate that was donated. We need $103 to cover the rest of his airfare (which was charged to my mother's credit card at her insistence!) Methodist HEB, in the person of , booked Cheney into a gorgeous suite (separate living and bedrooms, with a full kitchen). Using their connections, the hospital got the first night free and paid for the second night!! Again, miracles never cease. The medical establishment funding a CFIDS speaker!! If you know of a doctor/nurse/researcher/etc. who is not on our referral list that you would like to be informed of this opportunity, let me know and I'll mail a flyer about Cheney's seminar to them. I just learned today that a clinical trials center is Dallas will be a site for Ampligen trials if they can get enough CFS patients enrolled. This is not a cost-recovery program. Patients will not have to pay for the Ampligen. Call Pegasus Medical Group at 214-361-4455 if you want to learn more. Dr. Brannon is in charge of the potential trial. I have no details myself other than what is here. We have arrangements underway for several hospital & library displays, as well as local city proclamations of May 12th. I have all the materials and sample letters needed. If you would like to help, please let me know. It's an exciting time! Take care.
