Any attorney anywhere can help, so if there's a better one in NJ or in CA, use them. It all can be done by fax or phone. My husband even represented a patient (US citizen) in Iceland! Guest guest
Hear ye, hear ye!!!! I just got the word and this list is the first to know.....'s meeting (she represented the National CFIDS Foundation and got together the AIDS Act-Up group, the Nation of Islam, and all major US CFIDS groups to confront Dr. (CEO of Hemispherx) to ask him to fund a Citizens Advisory Board. It took the whole afternoon and some of the evening, but it was successful!!!!!! And was appointed to chair the group until the CAB can be set up and elect officers! This is a HUGE step forward to find out what the problems are with Ampligen and have the real truth come out as well as to protect the patients who are already on the drug. Can you all hear me applauding? Gail

Did you mean the reapplication level (2nd try)? If you already have an attorney, you can be helped with your application. Never, never, never go to the LTD stage without one. One LTD judge sent the patient home and told her not to come back without one because she'll definately lose.
Guest guest
ann, you must have been very lucky to have one during the first time around! But my advice stays....never, ever go beyond the level 2 without an attorney. If you lose then, an appeal will cost you so much more up-front money (the other takes money only if you are successful) and you can't go back and undo any mistakes or add anything. The key to remember is to do it right from the beginning. We have a guidebook that takes you through the process step by step. We don't get any money from it (in fact, when postage went up, we figured out we're losing a few cents on each one) and it costs what it costs us ($5.00). You're welcome to send for it. But you must have objective proof now. (You didn't need that years ago.) Don't lose what you're entitled to. Too many have and there aren't enough safety nets in place for all those who have the illess and become destitute. Gail
Guest guest
I didnt realize your husband was an attorney!! I know you offered someone on the list his phone number, but I didnt know why....haha!! I keep hearing of someone by the name of Proto who is an " advocate " in Florida on the disinissues list. He is really the only referral I have, besides other attorneys whom my Mom knows (but they havent handled CFS cases). Ill assume your husband knows about CFS and Fibro Is this his specialty? Please feel free to write to me personally. I dont want to bother the list with this!! Guest guest
Christa, Don't waste your time on an attorney .....remember,they take about 1/3 to 1/2 of your settlement $$$$......just fill in the application describing,in detail what a typical day is for you. Being an RN, I can tell you what SSI " looks for " ...for example if you have pain....on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the worst) what is your pain level, what helps it,does anything help it,is it burning,cramping,aching,stabbing....does it wake you up @ night, where is it located, how does it inhibit your " typical " day....etc.....feel free to e-mail me...I " won " my SSI 1st time around......when it got to the hearing level before a judge....believe me, just be truthful, this thing is a nightmare in and of itself....the truth is the truth, no attorney needed....good luck! Guest guest
Hi, I got attorney after first turndown. You need a lawyer who specialized in SSD cases, but can't help with NY attorney. Did you sub to DISINISSUES list. That is excellent source of information. Take care, Christie At 05:46 PM 5/25/99 -0700, you wrote: >From: Michele Umbach <musharina73@...> > >I know this is off-topic, but I wanted to ask a >question....... > >I just received the green application from SS to apply >for the first time. Guest guest
RE: The SSI.....I guess everyone has their own opinion about involving lawyers or not ...whatever works I say. If I'm in the minority re:not having a lawyer, I believe in our great democracy of the US of A (LOL!) so.....if majority rules....get the shark....errr..I mean lawyer....just get the benefits your entilted to....now if I were president.......
