Guest guest
Dear members of the AIDS-India Forum The following letters were received by me from subscribers in response to the posting by Umesh about AIDS being treatable. However, I wish to inform readers that six mails were inadvertently deleted by the server on the 28th May and readers who do not find their responses in this synthesized letter may please send it once again, this time direct to . The e-mail address of Dr. Umesh is <ajaumesh@...> -Dr. E. M. Rafique <emrafi@...> -------------------------------------------------------------- dear Doctor, I agree with your views. We need to be very intensive even with medical personnel to know the right things. The situation in Other parts of country is not different. Dr. S. V. Kulkarni. Khopoli dist Raigad Maharashtra <drsvk@...> -------------------------------------------------- very good response... thank you.. regards Mona Mishra, Positive Life <plife@...> ---------------------------------------------- Dear Umesh, I am happy to note that there are saner voices in the bureaucracy, even if it is one from the last rungs of it. Thank you Umesh. We were fighting with NACO to change policy about the drug treatment. The State AIDS Control Society still is teaching that there is no cure for AIDS and all the anti retroviral treatment are costly, spreading a sense of despair both among the advocates as well as the public. This inadvertently increases the number of suicides in Kerala, which even otherwise high. When Justice Kirby and Justice Cameron came to Kerala, it was a revelation for us that Cameron is HIV+ and he is leading a healthy life for the last six years on antiretroviral treatment. Just because AIDS Control Society is spreading the idea of high cost for antiretrovirals, nobody bothers or explores to make it cost effective. We all are resigned to the fate, as always, the typical Indian mindset. We should promote the idea, AIDS IS TREATABLE, and fight for the reduction of price by the companies. AIDS should be treated in par with diabetics, which is treatable if not curable. Indian companies are making it cheaper in Kenya. But our Government keeps its face turned away from all this. When people like you protest, from the side of the Government, it definitely will help us all in our struggle. Thank you again for such an inspiring letter. Thank you Rafique, for publishing it. Guest guest
Dear Rafique, There are various diseases which is not curable like asthma, but the patients lead a happy life. We have to talk the positive part and campaign for a positive life for the AIDS patients. All the patients are equal whether the disease is asthma or cancer or AIDS. They need love and care.
