Care and support of people living with HIV/AIDS has emerged as one of the major

areas of concern in the programmed efforts to manage the pandemic of HIV/AIDS.

To strengthen the managerial and technical capabilities of the programme

personnel in the Governments, NGOs and research institutions. The Indian

Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), Jaipur is organising a

Management Development Programme on " Planning For Care And Rehabilitation Of

People Living With HIV/AIDS " on February 17-22, 2003.

PLANNING FOR CARE AND EHABILITATION OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV

February 17-22, 2003

RATIONALE

The health, social, psychological and economic implications of AIDS epidemic go

beyond the infected individuals to affect the society and the nation at large.

It affects the people in several ways; physical suffering, decline in economic

and social standards of living, stigmatisation, discrimination etc. At the

society and national levels it affects the very basis of social living and

creates additional burden on economy and health services. As more and more

people are getting infected with HIV, their care and support at family, health

providers' and society levels becomes a crucial issue. Realising its relevance,

NACO has included the component of care and support for infected individuals and

their families in its strategy for second phase of National AIDS Control

Programme of India.

OBJECTIVES

The broad objective of the programme is to strengthen the technical capabilities

of participants in planning and implementation of care and rehabilitation

programme for people living with HIV (PLHA). More specifically, it will focus

on:

a.. Situation analysis to understand the care and support needs (health,

economic, social) of PLHA and their families.

b.. Building an enabling environment for de-stigmatisation of HIV and social

appreciation for care and support needs of PLHA.

c.. Networking with PLHA (and their families) to strengthen their capabilities

to lead a normal civic life.

d.. To strengthen health care programme for providing diagnosis and drug support

system services to PLHA..

e.. Documentation and assessment of the impact of inputs.

PARTICIPANTS

The programme is designed for planners, programme managers and researchers in

organisations, institutions and NGOs involved in the management of HIV/AIDS at

the state and national levels. The number of participants is restricted to 25.

METHODOLOGY

The training process will be participative. The programme is designed to enhance

participants' knowledge and to provide them an opportunity to develop their

skills. The programme will be offered through three main approaches:

a.. Concept sessions, discussions and presentations

b.. Case studies

c.. Group work

FEE

The course fee will be Rs. 10,000/- for Indian participants and US $480/- for

international participants. This covers charges for board and lodging and course

material. The participants/sponsoring agencies will have to bear the travel

expenses to and from Jaipur.

The participants are required to fill in the attached Nomination Form and send
