The stomach wrap is usually part of the procedure. I am having the

myotomy done on Monday Nov. 6th and I wish both of us luck! Just the

thought of it induces panic. As for the PH monitor, I agree. I had

two attempts at a manometry and both attempts were the most loathsome

things to ever happen to me. I agree with Carol, it will take a death

threat to get a tube up my nose and down my throat again.

Hi, !

I had not heard of this monitoring device before - sounds like the motility

test, only on a 24 hour basis. Who thinks of these things? I nearly died

just doing the motility test so can't imagine what you went through!

As to your question about the stomach wrap, I think there's still some

divided opinion in the medical community about the benefit of such a

procedure. I know in my case, my surgeon was for it, my gastroenterologist

against it. Luckily, the surgeon won (since he was the one doing it). I've

been pleased with the results. Acid reflux disease was one of my concerns

and one of the reasons I hesitated having the surgery: I felt I might be

trading one set of problems for another. With the procedure, I have had no

reflux problems. For a few weeks after the myotomy, I was prescribed Zantac

and took it, but then starting weaning myself away from it. Haven't used it

at all in nearly a year.

When is your surgery scheduled? It's too bad they can't do it

laparoscopically, since the recovery would be so much easier, but the main

thing is to get help with the achalasia. Since my surgery nearly a year

ago, I feel like a new person. Hope this is true for you!

Keep us posted!

Take care -

Carol
