Guest guest
and Ken - I have been thinking of you all week, and now can't tell you how happy I am to hear from you! All I could thinkof was that you would have a bad experience and how depressing that would be for you both. Instead, it sounds like just the opposite has happened. If any two people deserve to have a positive turn of events, it's you. If nothing else now, you have an advocate on your side and someone who both understands what you're going through and is in the position to help you. This sounds soooo encouraging! Great news! Guest guest
Dear Carol, I know it sounded promising, and I still have faith in this doctor, unfortunately, the Levsin gave Ken severe side effects, dizziness, loss of balance. He almost fell into one of his dump trucks, but still managed to bruise his arm and head. If he had fallen in it would have killed him, and I'm not joking. Also, with this new dilation procedure, his attacks are back severely. He says he is worse now than before. I am hoping this will calm down. Today he scared the hell out of me while eating a nectarine; he choked on it and couldn't answer me. I was scared! I thought I was going to have to use the Heimlech manoveur. He eventually got it up himself. Scary stuff. I am going to have to call Dr. Wolman and discuss what's happening to him and what else can be done to help him. He had an eospgeal motility test, and the results were bad; he has some swallowing functions, but beyond that there is no function at all. Please stay in touch, I need support Thanks,
Guest guest
To and Ken I am keeping up with reading all your correspondences, and my heart goes out to both of you. I can relate to the choking problem as that has happened to me. Believe me it is scary. You don't know where to put yourself. My husband has given me the heimlick maneuver a couple of times. I have had several dilations and for me it works. The last one in Aug. of last year, each time with a bigger no. It was no.5 something and the biggest is no.6 I believe. Hope it keeps working for a long time because as I understand it I would not be a good candidate for the myotomy because of my age 70. My thoughts and prayers are with you both and hope things will get better. >From: red57kw05@... >Reply-achalasiaegroups >achalasiaegroups >Subject: Re: back from Toronto after seeing new specialist >Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 20:36:48 EDT > >Dear Carol, > >I know it sounded promising, and I still have faith in this doctor, >unfortunately, the Levsin gave Ken severe side effects, dizziness, loss of >balance. Guest guest
Have you considered a Botox injection? It really helps some people. Good luck! Sincerely, Elena
Guest guest
Dear and Ken - How devastated you must be with these new complications! I seem to remember some other folks in the group taking Procardia instead of Levsin. Although they do the same thing, I assume, maybe this would not produce the same side effects. It's possible that there is some swelling due to the new dilation that is causing these new problems. If so, then it should go down over time. Probably the best thing to do is to eat as soft and liquid a diet as possible for a few days to give the esophagus time to heal?? Obviously, only Dr. Wolman can tell you for sure what's going on, and you're doing the right thing by calling him as soon as symptoms appear. Wish there were more we could do...
