Farewell to Dr. & Welcome to Dr. Olavi Elo.

Rotary District Governor Gulam Vahanvaty, Members of the Committee of HIV/AIDS

Task Force on HIV/AIDS, RID 3140 and over 6,000 Rotarians from our District 3140

join me to sending you our Warm Greetings and Best Wishes.

Those were your leadership efforts and untiring coordination from the office of

UNAIDS in India, helped us to encourage and forge National leadership towards

HIV/AIDS in those two years of your association with us in India: National

Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS, NHP-2002 and National HIV/AIDS

Policy-2002. As rightly mentioned by Mr. J. V. R. Prasada Rao, we will be

missing you at this crucial phase of the AIDS Control Program in India.

However, we Rotarians do not wish to say that " we miss you " . In India, it is

your program and we have to accomplish the same jointly - " Working Together

Works " . HIV/AIDS Task Force, RID 3140, a Global Network of Community Volunteers,

wish you a successful time in your new assignment with WHO, Geneva, a focal

point for VCT and Psychosocial Care. We should Share and Act. We just say, as

you said 'au revoir'.

We are happy to learn that Rotarian Dr. Olavi Elo will be in UNAIDS Delhi as

your interim successor. We take this opportunity to warmly welcome you Dr. Olavi

Elo, a Rotarian and a promoter of HIV/AIDS Program in Rotary International

District 3140 and in India through our Rotary District Governors Conference

organised for Five SAARC Nations in 1998 in response to a statement signed on

AIDS by Rotary and UNAIDS in 1996: " Working with New Generations for a Safer

World " , who was primarily responsible during his previous assignment in India to

building a strong foundation to adopt HIV/AIDS programs in India.
