Guest guest
Actually it's Portland (Oregon), but that's ok, Providence is a pretty cool city too. I've never been to Houston, I heard it's hot hot hot! My girlfriend is from Dallas, but got transfered out here to the Northwest with her IT company. Yes, I am post op and I do not have reflux at all. When I have these spasms or when the esophagus is tight, I have difficulty getting even liquids down, and sometimes saliva will build up. My case is odd because not only do I have a esophageal sphincter that won't relax but I also have a narrowing at the top of the esophagus, and a wide cavern in between. Basically my esophagus is all screwed up and they're thinking that I had an incomplete myotomy and they need to cut all the way up this time, to help with the swallowing and rid me of these awful spasms that I get. Achalasia comes in all forms, so what's good for one person is not always the best treatment for another. It sounds like you're coming along very well, to which I'm very happy to hear. Good luck and let us know what happens tommorrow. - from Portland (The Rose City) >>> lindwood@... 12/11/01 02:43PM >>> , And you are post op, right? Is all of your swallowing ok, and have you been told you don't have reflux? I don't think this is reflux...It only seems to happen on an empty stomach, too, which is odd. from H town (Houston)...not quite as cool as Province town! Guest guest
, Wow, that's very interesting. Are you going to have surgery again soon? Can they do it laparoscopically this time too? I'm curious to know if they did a barium swallow for you the first time before your surgery. My doctor told me cut as high up as he possibly could with the lap, so I hope it was high enough. Geez we go through a lot! I'll bet there's a special section of heaven for achalasians and their families. I think we're all a very special and upbeat group judging by everyone's posts. I am so glad to have found everyone here and am REALLY greatful I found you all BEFORE my surgery. It has been so helpful. Take care, and God Bless you!
