Cathey, yes, I too get that incredible painful feeling

on the roof of my mouth, towards the back of my

throat. Before I was diagnosed with A I told the

doctors about this and they were convinced that it was

acid reflux, burining my mouth, but I just knew that

it wasn't. I don't get heartburn, ever. It just

didn't make sense. I believe we've had conversations

on this in this group before, a long time ago, and

other people felt the same thing too. You may want to

look back in the archives. After my myotomy, I hardly

ever get that feeling. But when I do, I cannot

continue to eat, my mouth waters, it just hurts so bad

it is unreal.

,

I get pain in the roof of my mouth sometimes. The only way I can describe it is it feels like my mouth had been burned. Almost like it has blistered. It hurts so bad I can't even stand to drink water. I don't know what other symptoms you have, but I went to see a Rheumatologist. He is the first doctor that didn't give me the "look". I had a bunch of blood work done to test for Sjogren Syndrom. I won't find out for about 3 weeks. I am very nervous. At my next visit I will ask if he knows what causes the pain in the roof of the mouth. Hopefully I will get a answer.

I too occasionally have pain in the roof of my mouth. It seems to

happen just as I begin eating; however, I have not been able to

determine the cause or anything in particular that helps. The pain

is very intense like a cramp in the roof of my mouth. I can relate.

I get this but it also includes my 2 back teeth ( for

along time I thought it was my teeth) I get it when I

have not eaten for a long time, but also with and as a

part of the chest spasms. I usually find between 1-3

soup spoons of plain yogurt will completely releave

either. Though sometimes not with out considerable

burping or throwing up. My theory on this one is that

it is part of the nerve line and when you get a spasm

it does not always hurt where the problem is. If I eat

something that I should not it will cause this a great

deal. But if I do not eat at all, I think that the

very little bit of signal that my valve gets when I do

eat is absent and that it starts to block normal

opening and then saliva etc starts to build up and

become a problem. If I remember correctly the whole

natural digestion prossess actually starts with the

smell of food and then goes through each successive

phase until we have finished swallowing. Unfortunately

with us the process gets interupted at one point. That

does not mean our bodies dont need to work out the

other points of the process. So I just take it as a

signal that I have left not eating too long. After all

those of us who cant eat much at a time cant afford to

skip meals or forget to eat.

yah i getz that too....funny thing is though when i get the jaw ache

its kinda pre-spasm..kinda like a warning system that im justa about

to get spasms..then i drink freeeeeeezing water (to the point my

tongue goes numb) and it subsides..im no expert on this subject...i

lurk alot here..i should really get more into the conversations!..and

help other people out!..ive just got a new specialist..she says that

i should be fine for my older years now...the spasms have wierdly not

been as painful as they used to when i was younger...but this is just

me...let me stress that!..well im off..have alot of blueberry picking

to do (well not really, but it sounds cool!)

I have the same pre-spasm warning in the jaw and also in my ear which sometimes gets burning hot. That's how I know I'm about to have a spasm in my esophagus. Funny how we figured out that drinking extremely cold water subsides the spasm. I had an endoscopy for the first time in April. After it was over and I awoke, I had spasm. I was begging the nurse to give me ice cold water, and she kept insisting I'd throw up. It wasn't until the doctor came over and explained to her that I have "A" and to get me the ice, that she finally gave in. I then managed to down 3 cups of ice. I have also discovered that getting my back adjusted by a chiropractor on a weekly basis has aleviated the frequency of my spasms. Before I discovered that I had "A" , I was chewing on Tums like there was no tomorrow. One day I ran out of Tums and only had a cup of ice water. That was how I discovered the ice water trick. I was experiencing intense spasms 3+ times a week. Now I get one maybe once every other month if that. I don't know if any of this would work for you, but it has helped me.
