Counselors training program

About the organization

Countess Albina du Boisrouvray, with her family and friends, established the

foundation and association Francois Xavier Bagnoud (AFXB) in memory of her

son FRANCOIS -XAVIER. In 1986, at the age of 24, he tragically lost his life

during a helicopter mission in the Malian desert.Since then, the Switzerland

based Association has been active in over 17 countries across 6 continents. FXB

works in the areas of HIV/AIDS and disadvantaged children. Thus far in India,

FXB has initiated and supported projects in all the states of India.

On 11 June 1999, Francois Xavier Bagnoud Rajasthan Society was established

in Jaipur under Rajasthan Society Registration Act 1958 (Reg.

No.130/Jaipur/1999-2000). The Society was registered to conduct activities

on HIV prevention, Provide support for those suffering from the disease, and

serve as a resource agency for others conducting activities on AIDS. Currently

in Rajasthan, FXB is active in the Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jalore,Jodhpur, Kota, Pali

and Sirohi, Nagaur districts.

Need of the training program

HIV/AIDS, which had its emergence in India in the later-1980s, had become a

major public health problem in a period of one decade. It will seriously

affect the health and socio-economic well-being of individuals, families,

communities and the nation in the next five years unless effective action

programs are initiated immediately at all levels and the community truly

participates.

Prevalence of HIV/AIDS infection is spreading from urban to rural

population. The prevalence in rural population is more than double in

comparison to urban areas (0.19% & 0.50% respectively, July 2000

International AIDS conference Durban). VCTs are being started at district &

sub district levels. In time to come there will be an increased demand of

counselors.
