Guest guest
Dear all, Namaste. I am writing to the list to introduce myself and to ask for possible assistance. I am a socio-linguist working in Cardiff, Wales (UK) on globalistion and localisation of language with particular respect to HIV/AIDS. I am based in the Centre for Language and Communication Research at Cardiff University and also in the Health Communication Research Centre at the same. I will be visiting south India later in the month to find out about NGOs, support services, government initiatives, PLWHA and international bodies working in the field of HIV. The remit of my five year contract (which is now about a year in) is to interrogate the concept of 'quality of life' with respect to HIV and to examine both with respect to globalisation. Essentially the research involves two 'areas'. Firstly, infrastructural arrangements (including how work is facilitated, funded, encouraged, limited) with global bodies, government, NGOs and community organisations. Secondly, to find out about lived experiences of PLWHA. While I am a communication researcher, I am actually interested in finding out about how intervention and care work takes place; how policy is formulated; what local issues are; what's hard, what's easy and so on. I am particularly interested (personally and professionally) in human rights issues and how research of the kind I am conducting can be of help to the community. I can certainly provide more detailed information to anyone who might be interested. kind regards, Dr belle Mooney I can be contacted at mooneya@... or annabelle_mooney@...
