G'day!

When I first was diagnosed, this was one of the many, many articles we read. I

agree, it

was fascinating. My husband printed it off and went through it thoroughly. I

then phoned

Dr.Stiennon in America, as the article had been written some time ago and I

wanted to see

what he now thought. The author himself has passed away, but his son is working

in the

same department. I had a long talk with him. On the basis of this article and

the beliefs

outlined within, I went and had a CT to see if actually had a hiatus hernia

which could be

the cause of my achalasia. It was negative.

I like such articles, though. This searching and questioning can only help to

find some

" truth " . It is a very unusual disease. One day we will, I am sure, see the cause

of achalasia.

I think at the moment science sees it as the result of a virus/autoimmune

response. I tend

to go along these lines. That's my two cents worth as a non-medic!

Greetings across the miles!
