Guest guest
GLOBAL FUND OBSERVER (GFO) NEWSLETTER Excerpts from Issue 6 - Friday 31 January 2003. Three states in India received the largest single country grant within Asia, up to $38.8 million for proposals for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS over two years, the latter increasing their program for HIV/AIDS prevention and care for pregnant women, their babies and their families. Over the full term of the five-year proposals, more than 7 million pregnant women in the three states will be offered HIV testing and counseling, and over 350,000 of them will be provided antiretroviral prophylaxis to help prevent transmission to their babies. The tuberculosis component addresses the reality that 55-60 per cent of people living with AIDS in India also have tuberculosis. India: Years 1-2: $38,876,000 Years 1-5: $129,191,000 At the close of its fourth Board meeting, financial statements made clear that the Global Fund lacks the resources to approve a third round of grants in October 2003. At least US$ 6.3 billion in additional total contributions are needed over the next two years. By Monday 3 February, considerable further details on each grant will be available at www.aidspan.org/round2 * For GFO background information, see www.aidspan.org/gfo Copyright © 2003 Aidspan.
