Guest guest
<My name is Lori and I have a son who will be 3 years old in May. He was just diagnosed with apraxia.I need to speak to other mom's who are going through the same thing.> Hi Lori! Welcome to the group!! We are about 6 months ahead of where you are. Evan turned 3 in November. We received our diagnosis around his 2nd birthday though. You need to get the ball rolling if you haven't already. Contact your Early Intervention Program and see if you can squeeze 2 months out of them before his 3rd birthday. Also, contact your school district to set up an appointment for the child study team to evaluate him. If he qualifies, he will receive educational and related services. Before you meet with them, make sure you do all your research. Be prepared for them to know nothing about Apraxia, and be pleasantly surprised if they do. My district is informed (including his school SLP) but seems to offer the "packaged deal" anyway. Read everything on the website (www.apraxia.cc). Our story is on there too, just click on index and scroll down to "Evan's Mom Stacey." Good luck and feel free to write with ANY questions you might have!
