Guest guest
I have been reading about the questions about IEPS and starting kindergarten I just thought I would let you in on what I know . Two years ago I started my daughter in Kindergarten and it was the single best thing I could do for her they (being the school system)called me in for a " meeting " more a less to tell me that she was too far behind to catch up true she was totally NON VERBAL but like I told them I have worked for five years on keeping Whitney from thinking she was any less of a person than anyone else and she truly didnt think she was any different than anyone else so I went on to tell the school board that my daughter was entitled to the same education as were the children of this school I also told them that if need be I wouldbe At the school everyday if I felt she was not getting the proper treatment I had no idea that she had Apraxia untill later in the year however they individualized her a program that has her not only writing her first name but her last name she was mainstreamed in both years of Kindergarten but this year she is going into a special class but the good thing about a IEP is you can accept it or tell them what you think needs to be done like I have now requested that she have one hour speech sessions instead of 30 min. sessions because we all know it takes that long for a apraxic child to warm up . I hope this helps if any one has questions please let me know I had to go through this by myself you can reach me at ARFisher5@...
