Guest guest
Ok I am just a little Confused... Beverly quotes Carol Haggas who quotes Carol from Aug of 2000??? About the Stint? Go to Google scholar and do some research on Achalasia and stint. I remember last year reading some stuff on the experimentations with it.. I did wonder at the time why is couldnt be adapted. but could see food getting hung up on it. too. I can't imagine going through all that you've endured - 11 dilations in such a short time and traumatic ones at that! Have not heard about the stint for achalasia although I can see the logic being similar to those they use in heart patients. Have you discussed the surgical options for achalasia - the myotomy? > Wish I could give you some concrete information, but yours is the first time I've heard about the stint. Keep your spirits up and please keep us posted as to your progress. I'm sure you're apprehensive and downright scared about what your future options may be, but who knows? you may be a pioneer in a surgical technique that actually would be a more viable option than the ones we currently know about.> Take care - stay in touch!> Carol> > asking for help!> > > Hello everyone..> I am having a bit of trouble, and I hope that maybe someone can help me. I will give you a brief history. I am 32 years old. I had my first dilation at age 15 mos. It lasted until the age of 7, I had choking spells off and on until age 32. In April of this year I constricted so tight that I could not eat or drink anything. The dilation process started again. The first one, I had trauma and was in the hospital for a week. The thing is, they could not see the stricture until after the dilatation and the trauma had occurred. I was in MUCH pain. Since April I have had 11 endoscopy and dilations. I have been to IU (Indiana University) Medical Center for many tests. We were afraid of cancer because also in April I lost my first cousin to esophageal cancer. I have no cancer. The dilations last for only a few days, and then its back to liquids, and sometimes they stick as well. They cannot figure out why I continue to have stricture. > Yesterday was the 11th dilation, and my doctor (who is very great in this field) was talking about a stint of some sort. It is metal and it is used in cancer patients to hold open the esophagus. There are some draw backs, which we will have to go over in detail. > Has anyone heard of this? They now do not think this is achalasia, but are unsure as to what the problem is. > Thanks for any help! I am getting so depressed to the fact that Nothing is working for me.> Thank you again> Carol> Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.> > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------> > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------> Links<*> To visit your group on the web, go to:achalasia/<*>
