Guest guest
Dear Deborah, I hope you are feeling much better now and would just like to thank you for your words of comfort to me back at the end of January. I've not been able to reply sooner because I've been a hospital case over the last few weeks, with complications which ranged from chronic chest infections to not being able to swallow water towards the end. Happily, in between all that turmoil I had my 2nd dilatation done. It was due on 6 March but was brought forward while I was in hospital. Its very early days yet but seems to have had the desired effect, in that I can now eat more or less normally. In fact things are going down so easy I can't help thinking about what you said about the saggy sock (rotting food) going into the loop theory. Aaah! Still, I'll take my chances and I've got the added bonus of no more coughing, regurgitating, sleepless nights and only 2 pillows now instead of 6. When you had your op how did you feel after about a week. I feel like a different person now I can go to a cafe or restaurant without embarrassment. The last meal I had out was in a roadside cafe with my husband. I gave him lots of extras from my plate and was left with a fried egg, sausage, bacon & beans. I had to go to the ladies 5 times to get rid of most of it and I think the other diners must have thought I was incontinent and not an achalasia sufferer. Its also very quiet in our household at night now. I just go to bed and fall asleep straight away until dawn. Unbelievable! If I'm lucky this will last for at least 25 years. My consultant was very optimistic about it all so we carry on don't we. How's your swallowing now? Much improved I hope. Speak to you soon. Bye for now, in Essex xxx
